📖Sunday Recap
This week’s message from Matthew 8 reminded us that following Jesus is not casual, convenient, or on our own terms. Before Jesus calmed the storm, He challenged two people to consider the cost of discipleship. One man was eager but uninformed, and the other was willing but delayed. In both cases, Jesus made it clear that following Him requires total allegiance, immediate obedience, and a willingness to put Him first above comfort, convenience, and even other priorities. The text then moved into the storm, where the disciples discovered that being with Jesus does not mean life will be storm-free. Even though they had obeyed Him and stepped into the boat, fear still rose when the waves came. But Jesus showed that He is not only present in the storm, He has authority over it. When He rebuked the wind and sea, creation obeyed Him, revealing that He is no ordinary teacher but the Lord with power over all things. The question that remains for us is the same one the disciples asked: Who is this man? Take a honest look at what may be competing with Jesus for first place in your life. Is there an area where you have been delaying obedience, holding onto comfort, or trying to follow Him on your own terms? This week, choose one clear step of surrender and trust Him with it now, not later.
