đź“–Sunday Recap

This week we explored James 4:11–17, where James points us to the quieter sins that often go unnoticed but still shape our hearts and relationships. He begins with our words, reminding us that gossip, slander, and behind-the-back conversations do real damage. When we tear others down or assume the worst, we stop practicing the law of love and begin placing ourselves in the seat that belongs only to God. James then shifts to our plans, warning us about living as if we control our own future. When we make decisions without seeking God, we reveal an independent, self-reliant spirit that forgets how brief and fragile life truly is. Instead of saying, “Here’s what I’m going to do,” James calls us to submit our steps to the Lord and trust Him with every direction we take. Finally, James closes with a wake-up call in verse 17: knowing the right thing to do but refusing to do it is still sin. It’s not only the wrong we commit that separates us from God, it’s also the good we delay or avoid. As you go into the days ahead, consider where these truths meet your life. Are your words building others up or quietly cutting down brothers and sisters in Christ? Are your plans rooted in God’s direction or in your own assumptions? And is there a good work, a conversation, an act of love, or a step of obedience God has placed in front of you that you’ve been putting off? Ask the Lord to help you take that step today. Real faith keeps God in our words, our plans, and our obedience.
